Hey, buddy. Yeah, you, the one in the sweater. Can I interest you in a sweet new EP? Yeah, you know the sort. It’s got a coupla tunes, maybe as many as four or five, and you just take that sucker and pop ‘er in your player of choice and you’re in business. Sound like something you can get down with? Sweet, well, the EP is a new one from Weyes Blood (a.k.a. Natalie Mering), and it’s called Cardamom Times. (No, it’s not a concept album about an era in which young-looking moms get carded at liquor stores. Turns out cardamom isn’t just an activity relished by ol’ Sammy at the 21st Amendment Superstore down the block; it’s also a spice!)
The EP is out October 9 via Mexican Summer, and its Mering’s first release since 2014’s excellent The Innocents. The EP was recorded entirely at home and to reel-to-reel tape. It’s all spare simplicity, mostly just voice and guitar or organ. You can pre-order it here either as MP3 or as a limited-edition 12-inch. We’ve got a brand new track from it called “Cardamom” here:
