Some people make it all look so damned easy! The cursed “third album syndrome” only happens to those artists without a strong arsenal of old and new tricks. Hurdling gamely over the stumbling blocks that have stymied other dogs, Baltimore dreamers Wume have embraced their shadow of dark introspection, looking towards self-appreciation, enlightenment, and finding a safe house in this age of anxiety with their forthcoming album Towards the Shadow.
April Camlin (drums, vocals) and Albert Schatz (keyboards, electronics) will release their third album, Towards the Shadow, on November 9 on Northern Spy. Always eluding easy classification, Towards the Shadow fuses known Wume elements (hard-charging motoriks, honed ‘n’ honeyed tone poems) and new musical vistas into a vibrant mixture. There’s always plenty of improvisational interplay caught on a Wume record, but this time around, there is a unique lyrical bend, resulting from some serious word-woodshedding by Camlin.
Wume will be on the road with Beach House in Europe in October before heading back to the US for shows in Brooklyn and their home town of Baltimore in November.
