a stilted aria
a shuffling ear
shuffled airs
snaps of something crackling
like a fire

towards an ascendence
as is lifted by the sound of a bell
a tolling
or a croaking, as of one frog talking to another
many of them join to form of a chorus
that beats as the quick wings of a hummingbird
how might her own voice refract back to them
around a lake at night
from which nothing can be seen
