♫♪  Bridget Feral - “Comet”

Berlin-based producer Bridget Feral has released a short video for the song “Comet” from her recent release, String or Rope, on Embalming Lately.

Filmed in collaboration with her sister, Molly Ferrill, on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, Bridget explains how the fidgeting visuals came to be:

The video was filmed during a brief moment of being in the same spot at the same time. We knew we wanted to make a video during that time, and kept planning and planning but couldn’t settle on an idea. One day, we realized that there was just twenty minutes of perfect evening light left, so we went with the one idea we had and filmed it really quickly. So, lots of planning that didn’t really add up to much, and then one spontaneous moment that it came together.

See how the water seems to creak, the squelching sand shivers, little stones jitter. In grey light, the earth quakes, and pebbles are shifted, like a koan:

Inch Time Foot Gem

A lord asked Takuan, a Zen Teacher, to suggest how he might pass the time. He felt his days very long attending his office and sitting stiffly to receive the homage of others.

Takuan wrote eight Chinese characters and gave them to the man:

Not twice this day
Inch time foot gem.
This day will not come again.
Each minute is worth a priceless gem.
