Feedback, 2016
Kanye West

“With noise is born disorder and its opposite: the world. With music is born power and its opposite: subversion. In noise can be read the codes of life, the relations among men. Clamour, Melody, Dissonance, Harmony; when it is fashioned by man with specific tools, when it invades man’s time, when it becomes sound, noise is the source of purpose and power, of the dream — music.”
– Jacques Attali

Low Lights, 2016

No matter what you’ve been through or where you’ve been he’s always there, with his arms open wide accepting me for who I am and I love him so much, I couldn’t do it without him I wouldn’t want to. I’m crying now, it feels so good to be free, to be accepted for who you are and loved no matter what, oh lord thank you, you are the joy of my life.

Stupid boy, do you think I am your father? I am an idolater. Do you think it is God’s command, no it is my desire….” But Abraham said softly to himself, “Lord God in heaven, I thank you; it is better that he believes me to be a monster than that he should lose faith in you…

LIGO Opens New Window on the Universe with Observation of Gravitational Waves from Colliding Black Holes
WASHINGTON, DC/Cascina, Italy

For the first time, scientists have observed ripples in the fabric of spacetime called gravitational waves, arriving at the earth from a cataclysmic event in the distant universe. This confirms a major prediction of Albert Einstein’s 1915 general theory of relativity and opens an unprecedented new window onto the cosmos. Gravitational waves carry information about their dramatic origins and about the nature of gravity that cannot otherwise be obtained. Physicists have concluded that the detected gravitational waves were produced during the final fraction of a second of the merger of two black holes to produce a single, more massive spinning black hole. This collision of two black holes had been predicted but never observed. The gravitational waves were detected on September 14, 2015 at 5:51 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (09:51 UTC) by both of the twin Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) detectors, located in Livingston, Louisiana, and Hanford, Washington, USA.

Freud’s Mexico:
Remember that last time in Mexico
Remember that last time, the episode
Asking me why the hell I text in code
Four times that you say don’t text me hoe
Told you four times, don’t test me, hoe
Now we finna lose all self-control
But you ain’t finna be raising your voice at me
Especially when we in the Giuseppe store
But I’mma have the last laugh in the end.

Go ahead and fuck my life up.
The first human who hurled an insult instead of a stone was the founder of civilization.

Section 3
“What is an artist? An imbecile who only has eyes, if he is a painter, or ears if he is a musician, or a lyre in every chamber of his heart if he is a poet, or even, if he is a boxer, just his muscles? Far from it: at the same time he is also a political being, constantly aware of the heartbreaking, passionate, or delightful things that happen in the world, shaping himself completely in their image. How could it be possible to feel no interest in other people, and with a cool indifference to detach yourself from the very life which they bring to you so abundantly? No, art is not done to decorate apartments. It is an instrument of war.”
– Pablo Picasso

Some releases are so incredible we just can’t help but exclaim EUREKA! While many of our picks here defy categorization and explore the constructed boundaries between ‘music’ and ‘noise,’ others complement, continue, or rupture traditions that provide new forms and ways of listening. Not all of our favorites will be listed here, but we think each EUREKA! album is worthy of careful consideration. This section is a work-in-progress, so expect its definition to be in perpetual flux.
