Despite getting a lot of flak over the years for leaving an Animal Collective show 15 minutes after its start (I wasn’t feeling well, honest!), I am a fan o’ the band. Although the Collective continues to release collections that captivate listeners with its unique psych vision, there are also occasional side and solo projects to embrace.

Well, TODAY, we can give a hug to AC’s Avey Tare, who is sharing the A-side from his forthcoming twin-titled EP Conference of Birds / Birds in Disguise.

Avey Tare (a.k.a. Dave Portner) will release the EP digitally and as a limited 12-inch on December 5 via Domino. The double-sided Conference of Birds / Birds in Disguise EP contains five tracks, three of which — “Midnight Special,” “Red Light Water Show,” and “Disc One” — can be heard below when you check out the spellbinding video directed and edited by Natalia Stuyk.

Speaking of spellbinding, Portner says the following about the EP: “Early mornings at the bar. Deep conversations with a stranger. A Disney night parade gone wrong. The White Album is 2 CDs.”

Can’t argue with that logic. Nor can you with this nonsense: Conference of Birds / Birds in Disguise can be streamed here, and the EP can pre-ordered here and here.

The EP comes hot off the heels of Domino issuing Ballet Slippers, Animal Collective’s Merriweather Post Pavilion-era live celebration, last week. Avey Tare plays three shows next week, two in Brooklyn on December 5 and 6 and in Washington on December 7. Remember: don’t do as I did; stay until the end!
