Basic Rhythm returns to Planet Mu with 2 Da Core EP, shares a topsy-turvy new track

Hot on the heels of his third LP, On the Threshold — which has only been out since May — English producer Anthoney Hart (a.k.a. Basic Rhythm) will release a four-track EP on the iconic label Planet Mu. 2 Da Core arrives on September 13, and you can now stream its closing track, “Nuh Ramp.”

Before turning to his current moniker, Hart had made several harsh drum and bass/industrial techno albums as Imaginary Forces, and debuted on Planet Mu with a grime project, East Man.

As Basic Rhythm, he has focused on creating contemporary hybrid sonics whose “angular rhythms draw on Britain’s dance music past.” On 2 Da Core, however, he is also looking beyond the island for inspiration, aiming to bridge the styles of hardcore techno and footwork.

Besides the fractured-but-explosive “Nuh Ramp,” the E.P. will include a remix from one of footwork’s originators, RP Boo. If that’s not a reason enough to pre-order, then I don’t know what is. Check out the fresh single and complete tracklisting below:
