Bat for Lashes announces The Bride and church tour

Natasha Khan, she of the lovely voice and equally lovely imagination, is back with another release by her musical alter ego Bat for Lashes. This time she’s trading in the dreamy realms of mystical quests, faded silent movie stars, and straight-up wizards for a murkier, darker world: the story of a women whose fiancé has died en route to the church on their wedding day. Titled The Bride, the album’s out July 1 via Parlophone/Warner Bros. Perhaps you’ve already heard the first track, “I Do.” Now there’s “In God’s House” for your viewing/listening pleasure, which you can view below.

Written as the soundtrack for a hypothetical feature film, The Bride tells the story of the titular protagonist’s flight from this devastating occurrence, her decision to honeymoon alone, and the people and places that shape this trajectory. It’s based on I Do, a short film written and directed by Khan, which will debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York this April. She produced the album with the assistance of friends/associates Simone Felice, Dan Carey, Head and Ben Christophers.

In addition to Coachella and Governor’s Ball appearances, Bat for Lashes will be playing a series of shows in churches across North America and England. Attendees are encouraged to wear wedding clothes/formal attire for the events, with portions of the proceeds going toward the David Lynch Foundation and its mission to teach Transcendental Meditation to at-risk populations.

Tickets go on sale March 18 via the official Bat for Lashes website.
