I’m one of those people who doesn’t measure time in years, but in Björk album cycles. As a child, I learned to read during the hubbub around Post, I still remember my first kiss near the middle of Vespertine’s lifespan, and when I graduated high school mid-Volta, I was overjoyed about my bright future of Björk albums to come. But I’m more excited than ever today; because in no time, I’ll be able to start a new chapter of my life. That’s right: Björk’s new album is coming out at some point very soon!

But while we wait for that major announcement (which was announced with a more minor announcement last month), Björk has provided us with another minor-major announcement (one that’s nonetheless more minor than that other major announcement we’re waiting for): it’s a new single!!

Wait, what? “Where’s the embedded streaming media player?” you say? No, you can’t listen to it yet (sorry :/ ). But, if it makes you feel any better, you can listen to me while I tell you that it’s called “The Gate” and that it’s coming out very soon — September 18, to be precise (as I know Björk would want us to be).

Here’s what it’s all about, according to the artist herself:

the gate is essentially a love song, but i say ‘love’ in a more transcendent way. vulnicura was about a very personal loss, and i think this new album is about a love that’s even greater. it’s about rediscovering love – but in a spiritual way, for lack of a better word.

Oh Björk, you’re gonna make ME write a love song about THIS love song!

Pre-orders for the single-sided (get it?) 12” vinyl version of “The Gate” (which releases September 22 through One Little Indian Records) are now open, but you better hurry your little Björk-less butt over to this hyperlink, because it’s supposedly “a very limited run.” In the meantime, look at that dope, typically-Björkian album art! (Isn’t it DOPE?) And of course, from all of us here at TMT, allow me to wish you a Happy Forthcoming New Album!
