Blood Orange announces Angel’s Pulse mixtape

Blood Orange announces Angel's Pulse mixtape

So, I was just doing my daily ritual, browsing around the blogosphere (which is just a cute little word I came up with, nbd), when suddenly I thought, Where are all the bloody mixtapes?! I mean, it’s 2019! Why are we still talking about albums like it’s 1959 or something? I crave release strategies for the 21st century! Put out more mixtapes so this site’s accidental click-throughs from Google spike the way they did when Lil Wayne was dropping music like middle-school-me dropping my 2002 Sony Walkman out of my cargo shorts’ pockets!

Luckily, the other thing I did this morning was notice that Blood Orange has announced the follow-up to last year’s album, Negro Swan. It’s a mixtape called Angel’s Pulse, and guess what? It’s out this Friday, July 12 through Domino! Truly a timely coincidence.

Here’s Dev Hynes on the project:

My new record is called “Angel’s Pulse” & I performed, produced and mixed the entire thing myself. I’m calling it a mixtape.

I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street, or no one. Usually this material is made directly after the album I’ve just put out. Somewhat of an epilogue to the thing I’ve made before. This time.. I decided to release it.

I put as much work and care into it as I do with the albums I’ve released, but for some reason trained myself into not releasing things the rate at which I make them. I’m older now though, and life is unpredictable and terrifying… so here you go mates.

Check out Blood Orange on tour with Tyler, The Creator this year (dates below), and start staking out your favorite digital retailers to grab this thing the moment it lands. Remember: every time you support the mixtape market, an angel gets its pulse (or something).
