Califone announce Roomsound 15th-anniversary reissue and tour

Springing from the ashes of Chicago’s Red Red Meat, Califone have been bridging the worlds of experimental music, blues-rock, and pop to wimpy music critics’ delight for almost 20 years now. The band’s full-length studio debut, Roomsound, didn’t come out until 2001, but Dead Oceans is now set to reissue the album to properly celebrate its 15-year anniversary.

Califone’s founder and driving force Tim Rutili remembers the recording of the album fondly, even though the process was upset by the loss of a notebook full of lyrics and notes in a stolen Chevy Blazer. “Roomsound was a real beginning. By listening. By letting it be, by
force,” says Rutili. “There were moments in there that touched something real and pure. Maybe it (Califone recording) was (and is) the only place on Earth where what I say goes. There was hope in those little moments in the studio.”

There’s more: the original lineup of musicians who made Roomsound a reality, comprised of Rutili, Ben Massarella, Brian Deck, Wally Boudway, and Ross Andrews, is getting together for several US shows this summer and fall. They will be performing the record in its entirety.
