Chelsea Wolfe announces new album Abyss, previews single

Chelsea Wolfe is back with a vengeance. “Iron Moon,” her recently-released single has the L.A.-based Queen of the Goths getting metal in between bouts of stirring silence. You can check it out on her SoundCloud page or embedded below. Abyss, her fifth full-length, drops August 7 via Sargent House. The album is “meant to have the feeling of when you’re dreaming, and you briefly wake up, but then fall back asleep into the same dream, diving quickly into your own subconscious,” says Wolfe who — fun fact! — suffers from sleep paralysis, a condition that informs her haunting, intimate work.

For the new album, Wolfe collaborated once again with multi-instrumentalist/co-writer Ben Chisholm and drummer Dylan Fujioka. The crew called up viola player Ezra Buchla and guitarist Mike Sullivan (Russian Circles) to complete the squad. Together, they traveled to Dallas, TX to work with producer John Congleton (Swans, St. Vincent). If you like atmospheric black-and-white album teasers that show the band jamming together in a meaningful, artsy way, well, here’s one for you to enjoy. Wolfe & co. will be releasing the bats this Saturday at the Desert Daze festival in Mecca, CA, with more tour dates to be announced in the near future.
