By now, most of us who are clued in to the scene have more or less accepted a variation on the following: it’ll be the year 2102, and fans will be using that year’s Dinosaur Jr. album as a more-than-effective means of harkening back to the 1990s, that decade of considerable primitiveness when it comes to life-extending medical technology. The band’s ultimate longevity and generally worthwhile output has been well-documented, and putting on their 2007 album Beyond for the first time in a while, I was recently fucking astounded by just how inclined I was to don some acid wash jeans and dial collect via one of my city’s few remaining payphones. Their generally incorruptible sound may as well exist in a time capsule!
And you obviously know where this is going. The Massachusetts-bred band has just announced Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not, their third successive album on Jagjaguwar, and the only one to be released on August 5 of this year. J Mascis, Lou Barlow, and Murph outsource the visual announcement duties to Henry Rollins in the video below, and there are also a ton of supportive global tour dates that Dinosaur Jr. have revealed, perhaps coincidentally. Check out the full list of those following the first single “Tiny,” which just premiered via Jools Holland’s BBC Two show:
