Hot off the heels of that stellar Nick Malkin cassette, Geographic North is back with a sprawling, spook-tacular compilation of 21 power hitters in the experimental, ambient, drone, and “miscellaneous” categories.
Don’t Look Now: Aural Apparitions from the Geographic North features many GN alums, including Félicia Atkinson, Algiers, Arp, and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, to name a few — plus a selection of artists making their label debut! I can’t tell you the last time I listened to an album with 21 tracks, but here I am jamming this one hard. There are a lot of sounds and crunchy vibes to go around, but it all coheres into a seamless 90 minute mix of dark, murky jams that sounds especially cozy as the crisp, Pumpkin Spice-infused fall weather starts to envelop us all.
In case you were needing an extra incentive on this, you can rest assured that hard earned coin will be going towards a worthy cause. Proceeds benefit youthSpark, “an Atlanta-based non-profit that works directly with and protects at-risk youth from exploitation, abuse, and trafficking in the Southeastern United States.” It’s always good to support these non-profits, but to get some great Halloween jams while you’re at it?
