Guided by Voices will be releasing one album, AND ONE ALBUM ONLY, in 2018.
It’s, uh, it’s gonna be called Space Gun. It’s comin’ out on March 23, 2018 via Robert Pollard’s own Rockathon Records and is pre-orderable here.
The implication here is that this album — this ONE SINGLE GBV album to be dropped during the course of the earth’s next circuit around the sun — is gonna be especially good…or grander…or more ambitious…or…just…try-hardier, than Robert Pollard’s usual continuous stream of lovably uneven releases. With this band, it’s a risky proposition: Do you want a more polished, coherent GBV, or would that mean jettisoning some part of their ramshackle charm?
Bob Pollard probably doesn’t care about that, though; he’s just doing what the voices tell him to.
Speaking of voices, the voices have also guided Pollard and his latest lineup (including Kevin March, Doug Gillard, and Bobby Bare, Jr.) to play a bunch of dates in December and April, which you can peruse below, along with Space Gun’s title track and tracklisting. The dates actually start THIS WEEKEND, and some of ‘em are already sold out, but the voices guiding us told us to list them for you anyway.
