From three to three hundred, the number of musicians playing within an ensemble can dictate the music, mood, passion, power, and temperamental-ness of lunch orders drastically. There is something so pure about a duo, however. Not having a third, fourth, or 299th person throwing a volatile opinion into the work, we are often blessed with an imaginative mix created by two talented souls. Batman + Robin, peanut butter + jelly, Gwyneth Paltrow + Huey Lewis in that goddamn awful karaoke flick…some things are just meant to go together as duos!

And some singletons make any duo perfect. Case in point: wethinks any pairing involving either guitarist extraordinaire Steve Gunn or rhythm ace John Truscinski would produce world-beating results. But pairing them together is an embarrassment of musical riches. The tandem will release its new record, Bay Head November 3 on Three Lobed Recordings.

Bay Head is the third Gunn-Truscinski Duo album and latest since 2012’s outstanding Ocean Parkway. Although not out until the beginning of November, you can listen to the shuffling, joyful romp of “Flood and Fire” (flood + fire = yet another duo) down below. You can also pre-order the album on the classic duo of LP + digital here. After that, check out the five duos-worth of songs comprising the full album’s tracklist, as well as a half-duo’s worth of solo Gunn tour dates. 2 Cool.
