John Maus announces new album Screen Memories and a massive 6LP box set

A post-punker with early ties to Ariel Pink and a PhD in Philosophy (a combination of Ps certain to excite another base-P combo, wink), John Maus is returning to the fray with a new album called Screen Memories, his first new work since 2011’s We Must Become the Pitiless Censors of Ourselves (#7 on our Favorite 50 Albums of 2011 and a EUREKA!-worthy 5/5). Known for his commitment to intensity — equally represented in academia, live performance, and interview loquaciousness — Maus has baroque style and an engineer’s ear for composition. This is immediately apparent on the album’s first single “The Combine,” an operatic, John Carpenter-esque techno epic that Maus has released today, along with an accompanying video.

Since even a new Maus album and a new Maus video is not enough Maus for us, Maus has also announced a 6LP box set containing five older albums, 12 brand new songs collected on a release called Addendum, and a booklet of extra goodies. The massive missive of pure Maus-magic is due April 2018 on Ribbon Music and will feature the following albums:

Songs (2006)
Love Is Real (2007)
We Must Become The Pitiless Censors Of Ourselves (2011)
A Collection Of Rarities And Previously Unreleased Material (2012)
Screen Memories (2017)
Addendum (2018)

While we wait for the official release dates, relive your childhood wonder of watching videos of heavy machinery on a busted VCR in the video for “The Combine,” peep the fresh new tour dates below, and look for Screen Memories October 27 on Ribbon Music. Pre-orders are happening… here!
