Modeselektor to modeselebrate their modesuperlative taste in music with upcoming Modeselektion Vol. 03 compilation

It’s a natural inclination for we inhalers of music to be rather devout believers in our own taste. Age and an acknowledgement that being an ass generally isn’t a good thing have diminished the elitist propensities exhibited during my college years, but there’s a matured remnant in my character that will confidently accept requests for recommendations like Bubba would’ve accepted requests to expound on the intricacies of the shrimpin’ bidness. More officially, I imagine this desire for “knowledge”-sharing is one of the principal reasons why some DJs (radio and otherwise) become DJs in the first place — “Bear witness to my pristine music selections, initially discovered through years of intuitive hard work and international travel to the Earth’s remotest locations. And Pandora.” Still, of course, where would we be without recommendations!?

For one, we’d be without Modeselektor’s Modeselektion series, the third edition of which comes out June 27 on the duo’s own Monkeytown label. Attempting to be something (slightly) more than just a mere compilation of recently-discovered tracks, the goal is both cohesion and heterogeneity, as a press release proclaims that the key to a great mix is the “distance between its most diverse elements.” It’s an arguable point, but at least it’ll allow us a release featuring both Fennesz and To Rococo Rot. And in any case, Gernot Bronsert has no qualms with the simple explanation: any Modeselektion “boils down to whatever we think is hot.”

Confidence to the point of proselytism; we’re all guilty when it comes to music.
