RIP: Tim Wright, bassist for DNA and Pere Ubu

From The Cleveland Plain Dealer (via Billboard):

Tim Wright, the original bassist in the Cleveland-born avant-garde rock band Pere Ubu, died Sunday, according to a notice posted on Facebook by Pere Ubu frontman David Thomas:

“Tim Wright died Sunday, August 4 2013, reports longtime partner Mary Ann Livchak. He was an original member of Pere Ubu and later a contributor to the No Wave scene of New York City.”

Pere Ubu was formed in Cleveland in 1975 by Rocket from the Tombs veterans Thomas and the guitarist Peter Laughner. The band released its first single, “30 Seconds Over Tokyo/Heart of Darkness,” that year with a lineup that included Wright, keyboardist Allen Ravenstine, guitarist Tom Herman and drummer Scott Krauss.

Wright left the group in 1978 to join the New York no-wave band DNA.
