Solange announces A Seat at the Table, out on Friday

In keeping with 2016’s spirit of wokeness, the realer Knowles will release a 21-track album called A Seat at the Table on Friday, alongside a digital book of lyrics and photography out now on her website.

As evinced by the lyrics and photographs contained there — strikingly beautiful compositions well worth checking out — as well as her recent Instagram posts and editorial on her experience at a Kraftwerk show, A Seat at the Table is a statement on self-love, black bodies in white spaces, and belonging in a hostile world. Solange’s first release since 2012’s True, the new album has more interludes (eight) than that release had tracks (seven). Guests include Q-Tip, Kelly Rowland, Kelela, Dev Hynes, Lil Wayne, and The Dream.

At this point, Solange is probably still the sister with a temper to most of this Bey-crazy world. This release seems geared, in part, to reframe her as the sister with the vision.
