Spectral duo Meg Baird and Mary Lattimore to release Ghost Forests in November on Three Lobed Recordings

Spectral duo Meg Baird and Mary Lattimore to release Ghost Forests in November on Three Lobed Recordings

When talking about submitting to the power of fellow writer Amy Hempel’s work, Chuck Palahniuk claims the only thing to do is “lie on the floor, face down, and praise it.” The same can be said about the music of Meg Baird and Mary Lattimore. And that enthusiastically horizontal routine is not only practicable for fans but for other musicians as well. Boasting CVs that includes essential group membership and collaboration in addition to their captivating solo ventures, the two are pros in the partnership department. So it only made sense that they would conspire to record an album together eventually.

It is a heavenly union, in which two players with impeccably dense pedigrees conspire for a shot of ear-searing pastoral nirvana. Lattimore and Baird will turn ALL listeners into prone drooling drones on November 9 when they release their first album together, Ghost Forests, on the always amazing Three Lobed.

Unafraid to embrace the traditional but obdurately free of cliché, the two together are incredibly captivating and as freakin’ folky good as it gets. The first taster from Ghost Forests is “Painter of Tygers” and it can be heard below.

Tons of live shows, including their first live show as a duo at the Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, NC this coming weekend and a long string of European dates in October and November with Kurt Vile and the Violators are listed below as well. Hopefully this is the first of many cool moves to watch because these two are reliable as quartz. Pre-orders for the CD, DL, and limited gatefold LP can be found here and here.
