Mike Patton checks his watch. But, of course, Mike Patton’s not going to check his watch like most people check their watch. For one, most people don’t even have a watch these days. Mike Patton has a watch on it, but one with no numbers, no marks to traditionally tell time. Mike’s just has words, stuff like “Fantômas” or “Mr. Bungle” or “Peeping Tom.” Right now, for Mike Patton, it’s Tomahawk time.
Of all of Mike Patton’s many many many projects, Tomahawk is one of the more active in recent years. The group that finds him collaborating with the likes of Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard) and John Stanier (Helmet, Battles) just put out a new record, Oddfellows (TMT Review), on Ipecac earlier this year. Now, they’re going on a pretty substantial European tour that will run through late summer. One has to wonder that, after all these years, after all these accomplishments, if there’s still someone at every show who just thinks, “I wish he’d play something off Angel Dust.”
While Tomahawk is headlining most of these dates, because Mike Patton’s a big deal and don’t you forget it, the band is opening for Nine Inch Nails during their date in Milan. Sources speculate that Patton and Trent Reznor will meet each other before the show. Both will ask if the other remembers being weird in the 90s. Both will say yes.
