Cool and lovely Exael make cool and lovely ambient music on new West Mineral Ltd. album

My dumb non-binary ass once cried a single tear reading the description of Exael and uon’s loveletter of an EP from last year. Ambient music is the non-binary love language, because I SAY SO, damnit! Anyway, I’m so happy they have new music and that the world gets to share it SOON.

Sorry, I’m collecting myself. Exael is also known as Naemi. Their string of absolutely excellent records started around 2016 and they seem to be gathering no moss. Collex, their debut LP under the Exael name, will be released this Friday, October 26, on Huerco S’s West Mineral Ltd. label. That label is on a roll with l’amour, having just this year released a phenomenal record from the recipient of that aforementioned loveletter.

Collex appears much less lovey, though. Who has time for loviness in this bizarre, nightmarish timeline anyway? West Mineral says it marks a new kind of ambient from Exael; that it “marks the inward/outward distance travelled between concrète and electronic textures and spatial parameters…” You can taste exactly what sounds like (pretty metallic, I’d say) in the sampler below. Incorporating more elements of the quieted dub that stood out so boldly on the label’s inaugural release, Collex is right at home among its catalog peers.

Pre-order this document on gender, mental health, and emotional wealth over on West Mineral’s Bandcamp. Go on! Before I start crying again…
