Wolfgang Voigt finally knocks time down a peg or two on new release for Kompakt

Oh, I have had it up to here with time! The progression of the universe and the events within, arguably in a linear fashion though hypothesized by some to actually be non-linear? Bunch of crap, I tell you! Time’s been walking around here like it owns and/or consumes the entirety of the place for too long! It’s about time someone cut time down to size. That someone is Wolfgang Voigt, the German techno legend behind the venerable Kompakt label. On July 7, Kompakt will put out Voigt’s Rückverzauberung 9 / Musik für Kulturinstitutionen, a CD release limited to 500 copies.

According to the vague, abstract, awesome press release, Rückverzauberung touches on how “time is an elastic concept.” Hell yeah it is, Wolfgang! Tell that sonuvabitch to gain some rigidity! At least, that’s how I choose to interpret this, as a massive gauntlet thrown down to the concept of time. In throwing down said gauntlet, Voigt is using “narcotic brass loops, almost imperceptibly modulating, reel towards infinity” and “a 70’s kraut electronics sequencer feeling coquets with James Last’s muzak sound and Cheb musicians on valium.” Yes, that’s exactly how I’d defeat time, too! With that said, the only question is whether an occasional cloud of atonality might suggest the abyss on this record. Well, take it away, press release quote: “Only the occasional cloud of atonality suggests the abyss behind the blue skies of (pop)ambientish other-worldliness.”
