Wooden Wand announces new album this fall on Young God, summer tour

I think we know more about the extremely prolific Wooden Wand than we used to (example TMT News, 2006). In fact, we know quite a lot about Death Set, the forthcoming album by Wooden Wand’s James Jackson Toth, which will be released this October under the name Wooden Wand (not “and the Vanishing Voice,” “and the Sky High Band,” “Wand,” or any variations thereof). Recently, Toth released James & the Quiet (TMT Review), as well as his last album, a collection of demos, through experimental god Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace! label. But Toth wasn’t satisfied with just one deity. For Death Seat, he’s moved on to work with another legend, Michael Gira (Swans) and his Young God Records.

The new album, as you can expect from a WW offering, includes collaborations with a slew of musicians, including William Tyler of Lampchop and Silver Jews, Grasshopper of Mercury Rev, and Big Blood’s Colleen Kinsella and Caleb Mulkerin. You can listen to a non-album version of the titular song from Death Seat on Wooden Wand’s MySpace. I recommend a front porch, sunset, and lonely breakup to go along with it.
