When Cherushii and Maria Minerva dropped “Thin Line” back in 2015, it was easily one of the best tracks to come out of the LA’s consistently stellar 100% Silk. The pairing of Chelsea Faith’s lush house productions with Minerva’s pop songwriting made for an instant classic suited for the clubs, a late night drive, or just about anywhere. It was a collaboration that left us waiting for what was next. While Cherushii’s life was cut short in the 2016 Oakland fire, she and Minerva had already “written, recorded, and mixed the better part of six songs,” as the label writes. Those tracks are about to see the light of day as Cherushii & Maria Minerva, out February 15. The opening tune, “A Day Without You,” is a bright pop banger that showcases everything about this collaboration that rules so hard. While the release is a somber reminder of a tragedy in a world full of it, the resulting tunes are anything but. Get out the glow sticks and hit play on this burner.
