18+’s 2014 album Trust saw a triumphant return to the format of the duo’s impressionable days — seeing as how it was their first proper full-length album after a string of attention-getting, anonymous m1xta23s. Perhaps there’s something more appealing to audiences when artists release music off-label and with the associated pressure seemingly dissipated, because 18+’s Fore mixtape from early last year received almost as many kudos as their “proper” 2016 album Collect for Houndstooth did. One could reasonably imagine a scenario where the two traffickers in off-kilter R&B spend the rest of their days randomly self-releasing new music, featuring covers that leave plenty to the imagination. “Who are 18+, really?,” a fan might wonder in the distant future.
In the near future, though, fans in Europe won’t have that problem. They’ll be able to easily discern 18+’s physical identities by attending one of the shows on their just-announced tour. To recap: that’s the Los Angeles-based Justin Swinburne and Samia Mirza… performing together… as 18+… in Europe. No word on what specific meals they’ll be eating in their individual green rooms, though. PRIVACY PLEASE!
