Animal Collective announce new green-minded EP Meeting of the Waters, reveal tour dates

Live recordings from a Brazil trip early last year by Animal Collective members Avey Tare and Geologist are set to appear on the recently-announced EP, Meeting of the Waters, out April 22 (Record Store Day) in the form of a limited-edition 12-inch. According to a press release, AnCo are desiring to do right by Mother Nature by donating a portion of the proceeds earned through the sale of the EP to IDESAM (Instituto de Conservação e Desenvolvimento Sustentável do Amazonas), a non-profit NGO dedicated in part to the conservation of the Amazon region.

“It was an incredible experience to be able to collect sounds and make music in a rainforest,” according to a post by Animal Collective on Instagram. “Its absolutely crucial for the survival of our planet that we don’t loose these habitats and environments. By supporting this release you’ll be helping out a good cause (more info in our bio). You’ll also be helping a local record store which is another crucial creative environment that deserves to be supported.”

While you can warm your charitable heart cockles by purchasing the sweet, rare vinyl, you can also check out the tour that begins subsequent to Record Store Day. Painting With, Animal Collective’s latest studio album, is still relatively fresh, so it’s reasonable to expect setlists that draw proportionately from that release. So, you know, don’t only buy tickets with the hopes of hearing “Brother Sport” or “My Girls” (from MPP); Tare himself believes the band might’ve performed those songs to the point of exhaustion anyway.

Excerpts from Meeting of the Waters will be featured in an episode of the new VICELAND series “Earth Works,” which is scheduled to air June 2. See the tour dates below the “Earth Works” trailer:
