If the rumors are true, transplants to the Seattle area might know the feeling better than most: in one’s admirable quest to build some real connections in the area, you encounter a not-easily-traversable hump in between “mere acquaintance” and “actual human friend.” Every time you suggest a harmless rendezvous with a potential pal, there’s always some lame excuse like, “Oh, the alignment of the planets hasn’t foretold our hanging out,” or, “I’m actually a member of a semi-famous band from Baltimore, and while we previously scheduled a night of entertainment with you, we’ll have to postpone things due to one of our members spontaneously coming down with strep throat.”
Animal Collective, it should be noted, have proven themselves the opposite of flaky over the last week or so. After apologetically removing a few tourdates due to an Avey Tare throat contagion, they’ve already rescheduled those dates (with the exception of the Boise show) for September and October, with Dan Deacon more or less maintaining his support role. All prior ticket purchases will be honored, and any bad blood between the band and their fans in those cities has presumably been remedied. C’mere AC, gimme a big o’l platonic hug.
