Autechre give you something to be exaited about, announce new double album Exai on Warp

(If you wanted to be a jerk, you could point out how this information was announced almost a month ago, but then you’d be trivializing the fantastic, ingenious, superlative work that we put into our year-end lists. You might also consider this article a much-needed refresher to the post-New Years mind. Or, I just really really like Autechre and wanted to report on this.)

Unlike a couple of Warp’s other legendary acts (*snort* BoC, Aphex Twin *hack*), Autechre deserve some credit for more or less maintaining their prolificacy from the early 90s all the way to the present day. 2010 saw the release of both Oversteps (TMT Review) and the EP-in-name-only Move of Ten, totaling roughly two hours of the programmed obscurity that most of us (the more enlightened, let’s say) have come to appreciate. For the truly fanatical, 2011 brought the release of EPs 1991 - 2002, a gargantuan 47-track box set consisting of, as you might’ve assumed if you aren’t familiar with it already, most of the duo’s EPs over that time period.

This year, Autechre continue their musical generosity with Exai, a new two-disc, two-hour long studio album due out March 4 in the UK and March 5 in the US on Warp. The album will also be available digitally, and as a 4LP vinyl set. Check out the thoroughly Autechrian tracklist below, and acknowledge the seemingly Tetris-inspired cover art above.
