Huerco S. pulls the lever on his recliner, announces new ambient album on Proibito

Summer is the time to “chill,” supposedly, but chilling is also the prescription articulated by Kansas-born producer Huerco S. a.k.a. Brian Leeds in a recent interview, where he talked about the pressure for (or inclination of) danceable electronic musicians to churn out releases, as though the releases were on a conveyor belt directly connected to one’s brain. I certainly have a habit of neglecting most of the singles and some of the EPs that regularly see notoriously limited pressings every year, and in that sense, I’d much rather “chill” with synths on full-lengths playing in the background, as fresh-squeezed lemonade cools my tongue. Do we really need to bring in Arnold’s ice-related puns as a testament to the overall virtue of chilling?

Musically, Huerco S. is also taking things down a notch with For Those of You Who Have Never (And Also Those Who Have), a new full-length release set to be thawed June 6 via the Anthony Naples-run Proibito imprint. A short press description offers a solid contrast between it and the off-kilter Huerco S. debut LP, as this new one is reported to contain “nine of the densest ambient and meditative music pieces since the dawn of music!!”

Who said we in the music press business were prone to hyperbole? Listen to a Huerco S. song not on the upcoming album after the tracklisting; it sounds like foreshadowing.
