In honor his father's birthday (April 11), Lescalleet is also offering his tribute album The Pilgrim for $4.11

If ever there was an artist for whom digital distribution was pretty much perfectly designed, it is Jason Lescalleet. I mean, for one, look no further than the guy’s towering This is What I Do series, which is shockingly in its 19th iteration. And then of course there’s the format-busting length’s he’s able to achieve on releases like The Pilgrim, the truly moving tribute to his father, Harrison Lescalleet (NB: if you don’t own The Pilgrim, today’s a great day to grab it. In honor his father’s birthday today, Lescalleet has temporarily lowered the album’s price to $4.11).

But we’re not here just to talk about the man himself. Because, turns out, another reason why this old interweb is so powerful in the hands of a wizard like Lescalleet is because he can go and drop not one but two exciting new releases by little-known artists in a single day, with a nary a middle-person in sight.

Release number one comes from Caroline Park, and it’s entitled Live Your Best Factory Life. Across its three tracks, the album explores the “tensions that persist” in our everyday lives, plumbing how much work goes in to just making a body stay alive from one second to the next. Park harnesses overwhelming drones that, by way of subtle textural manipulation, wrap us up while simultaneously laying us flat.

Next up is Metallisilmä, Haaksirikko from Finnish artist Taneli Viljanen, a more fragmented and jittering release compared to Park’s. Viljanen combines buzzes, hums, and rattles from both field recordings and produced tones into a shivering assembly that marks the tensions between the “musical and the nonmusical,” “the mundane and the uncanny.”

You can grab both releases from the Glistening Examples site today, and stream them down below.
