Tim Hecker announces new album Konoyo on Kranky, shares "This Life"

Throw those NOFX albums away, because Tim Hecker is back in town, and he brought some ambient jams with him! That’s right. After having just announced reissues of two early releases, Hecker is here to re-satiate your cravings with a new record titled Konoyo, his ninth studio album and first since 2016’s Love Streams.

According to Kranky, Konoyo was mostly recorded in a Japanese temple with members of the gagaku ensemble Tokyo Gakuso. “Inspired by conversations with a recently deceased friend about negative space and a sense of music’s increasingly banal density, Hecker found himself drawn towards restraint and elegance, while making music both collectively and alone.” The album’s first single, “This Life,” can be heard below, followed by a string of dates with members of Tokyo Gakuso and Kara-Lis Coverdale.

Look for Konoyo September 28 via Hecker’s longtime home, Kranky. It’s guaranteed to get at least a 3.5 rating from Tiny Mix Tapes, so go ahead and pre-order. You trust us, right?
