Animal Collective postpone more tourdates; Avey Tare's throat Hz!

Following last week’s announcement that they would be rescheduling a number of shows due to illness, Animal Collective have now stated that they will be postponing the remainder of their performances this March, citing a case of strep throat that was not treated soon enough. Avey Tare, the horse of the collective, made the following statement:

To all of the AC fans out there. I feel its best you hear it right from the horses mouth. It kills me to have to postpone all these shows and it’s something I could never even have imagined happening. I’m positive that we were as excited as you all to visit all of your towns and have a good time together. But because of the strain on my voice that’s being caused by an intense case of strep throat, I am unable to play any of these shows. Unfortunately, I wasn’t diagnosed soon enough and haven’t been able to kick this in the right amount of time.

Tare went on to whinny and stamp his feet while assuring listeners that the band was doing everything they could to reschedule the postponed dates as soon as possible, and that details about rescheduling will be released when they’re available. Then he took a sugar cube right out of my hand and galloped off toward the horizon, accompanied by a large panda, a bird with a long narrow beak, and a rock creature that looked more like a Pokémon than any animal I’d ever seen.

Tour opener, Dan Deacon, who is not an animal at all, and who is in fact an American male, had this to say on his Facebook page:

i’m sure many of you are upset and bummed out by this. i know exactly how you feel because i feel that way too, probably way more so. i’ve been looking forward to this tour for many months. i’ve never gone on a tour like this. i’ve always wanted to go on a tour like this. many of the shows would of been the biggest ones i’ve ever played in most of these cities. i’m not sure i’ll get an opportunity like this again and it a huge disappointment that tour had to unravel this way. but of course i support dave’s difficult choice to take time off for his health. i know first hand how stressful it can be to have be ill or in pain on the road and have to make the call to not do a show. its a choice no one wants to be faced with. i’m really glad we got to play a few shows on this tour. AC and their crew were super awesome and the show was a really solid one. I really hope we can make up as many of the shows as possible.
