Ducktails announces new album, Jersey Devil, shares lead-off single "Map to the Stars"
Matt Mondanile: local sports authority.

Stop me if you think that you’ve read this one before: Matt Mondanile is releasing new Ducktails music! But wait…Mondanile must have emptied out his Ducktails archives by now. After all, he’s already put out two compilations of fine, artisanal unreleased material this year. Hmm…That must mean – *GASP* – that must mean it’s a brand new LP chock full of of fresh Ducktails jams! Yes, Jersey Devil is coming October 6 to a neighborhood near you, via Mondanile’s own New Images label.

Jersey Devil, Mondanile’s sixth full-length album as Ducktails, came together over two years. Even though he started working on it in Los Angeles, things didn’t come into full focus for Mondanile until he moved back across the country to his ancestral home of Ridgewood, New Jersey. Making the transition from a cramped California warehouse-turned-studio to the friendly, familiar confines of his mom’s wood-paneled basement proved to be the creative spark Mondanile needed to make Jersey Devil the album he wanted it to be.

(You know, a lot of people have been linked to it in the past, but I’m glad the tribute album for the classic PlayStation One platformer Jersey Devil ended up in Mondanile’s capable hands. There’s really no one I’d trust more than him to bring that story to life through music. I’m especially looking forward to “Keeper of the Garden,” and hearing how he tackles the oft-neglected perspective of Dr. Knarf’s mutant vegetable army. And hey, who knows, if things work out, maybe the next Ducktails album can take on Blasto, or Rascal, or — god willing — the inimitable Croc: Legend of the Gobbos.)

But anyway! In case you’ve somehow forgotten during that last paragraph, the new album from Ducktails is still called Jersey Devil, and it is still out October 6 via New Images. You can pre-order it here. Mondanile is also taking Ducktails out on tour throughout the fall, making prolonged stops on three continents along the way. Check out the video for “Map to the Stars,” the first single off of Jersey Devil, as well as all of the upcoming Ducktails tour dates, down below, you little devils, you.
